Week 3, Term 3, 2022 -26th July 2022
Principal's Reflection
This week, we celebrate all that is great about St Mary’s during Catholic Education Week.
Catholic Education Week is designed both as a period of celebration and a special opportunity to promote the great things happening in Catholic education across the state.
It is also a time for us to communicate and celebrate the distinctive mission of Catholic education. We are very blessed to have an outstanding school. Two very important declarations at St Mary’s are our School Mission and Vision statements, which articulate ‘Who we are’, ‘What we value’ and ‘What we stand for’. They are important statements for all members of the school community to know and appreciate and for your reference, are included below;
As you can see, there is a real focus on the holistic development of each child, based on the love and inspiration of Jesus Christ. The goal of educating ‘from and for a faith perspective’ is articulated, where the eventual goal is for students to grow as confident and well-rounded people who in adulthood, can ‘make a living, and have a life’. It is optimistic, visionary and perhaps even a bit idealistic, but considering that we are dealing with the lives of our children, it has to be.
Everyone involved with the school; staff, parents and students, has a part to play in achieving this mission. And, in this special time of Catholic Education Week, I invite all of us to work together to make real these statements in our school.
The poem below written by Rupert McCall also nicely summarises the meaning of Catholic Education Week.
All the very best,
Wes Rose

Drama Workshop
Yesterday, a group of our aspiring young drama enthusiasts participated in a workshop conducted by Sarah Hope - Artistic director at Pebble Theatre, Brisbane.
The students along with our own drama expert, Mrs Donna Wood took off on a journey to Planet X. After leaving earth, the students were set the task of rebuilding society from scratch as a collective story exploring group ideals, values and visions for an imagined future.
Sarah also conducted a professional development session with Mrs Wood focussing on the importance of enhancing creative and emotional intelligence in students, through engaging with theatre.
St Mary’s thanks Sarah for travelling to Mackay to help ensure our regional students experience great quality extracurricular activities.

St Mary's Battlers
Last Wednesday, the St Mary’s battlers returned home from Challenge Cup to face a tough Emmanuel Catholic Primary School side. The team were a little weary after their week away but an early first try in the match by Tyler Marteene ended up being the clencher to give us the win in a 14 all draw. The team face Northview tomorrow in an attempt to keep up the winning streak and secure ourselves a spot in the finals. Go Battlers!
